Annual Report 2016-2017Published Date : 2017-09-28 - 0.84 MBTo speed up inclusive economic growth and transformation, South Africa needs to maintain a safe, stable climate for trade
and investment. Achieving our economic goals requires that we ensure the integrity of the country’s financial system and
its institutions. South Africa’s financial architecture must meet global regulatory standards and be highly resistant to crime.
The FIC Act and the FIC itself are integral to these objectives.
Annual Report 2015-2016Published Date : 2016-10-17 - 1.31 MBThe FIC contributes to protecting the integrity of South Africa’s financial system, which in turn anchors the country’s economic stability.
The FIC has a dual focus to its mandate. On the one hand, it is to assist in identifying the proceeds of crime, and combating money laundering and the financing of terrorist activity. A strong financial intelligence system contributes to the fight against crime and corruption – and the safety and security of all South Africans. On the other hand, these activities are designed to assist in making the financial system intolerant to being abused by criminals, which directly underpins the integrity and stability of the financial sector.
Annual Report 2014-2015Published Date : 2016-07-25 - 2.40 MBThe FIC was established as South Africa’s national centre for the gathering, analysis and dissemination of financial intelligence in 2003. Since then, there have been sweeping changes in the global economy and financial regulation.
Annual Report 2013-2014Published Date : 2016-07-24 - 2.63 MBOver the past five years, the global economy has been marked by weak growth, volatile capital flows and an uneven regulation landscape. There has also been a growing realisation of the extent of illicit financial flows, which undermine growth and development, particularly in developing countries. The FIC's work during this period has laid the foundation for it to contribute to South Africa's developmental policy at a qualitatively new level.
